The Florist helps St Peter's flourish with new greenhouse

A New World Pledge - Grow With Us

We are passionate about pioneering bright futures in our local communities, through sharing the gift of green fingers! The Florist team members visited their local primary school to build a greenhouse, with the view of inspiring bright futures through engagement with the health-conscious project. The team will open the greenhouse with all the necessary requirements to make this project flourish! From elbow grease, seeds and pots, to shelving, garden tools, compost and grow bags!

The project invites students, parents, and teachers to get stuck into growing fruits, vegetables and herbs, and will be pioneered by the awesome Eco Warrior teachers and students. Alongside this, St Peter's host an awesome cookery school club who will be reaping crops from the project, teaching willing parents cookery skills and supporting new qualifications.

With the launch of The Florist in Bristol, we were excited to venture into our new city and make connections within the Bristol community. From the first day of meeting our Bristol team, we knew they were an extraordinary group of individuals! With obvious open-hearts and open-minds, they were eager to connect further with their community, understanding the social implications affecting their surrounding neighbourhoods. When we announced our charity initiatives, nearly 40 team members put their hands up to volunteer without hesitation! An astounding response which mirrors the strong community culture in Bristol!

On the first day of mission ‘Grow With Us’, three Florist champions from our bar team - Christian, Rui and Harry - traded in their training manuals in exchange for wellies and construction hats preparing for an entire day of sweaty labour and head-scratching; one of those projects you actually have to read the instructions?! With Rui’s ex-navy skills, the crew were at an advantage and barely a head-scratch in sight. Noon quickly came around with a blast from the past as the greenhouse crew were treated to a delicious school lunch with jelly for dessert!

On the second day, our very own NWTC charity queen and all-round bundle of joy, Katie, visited St Peter’s along with Mimi, one of The Florists' incredible managers, set to inspire the children to fill the greenhouse with new life!

From planting seeds and flowers to building worm farms, organising the shelving and creating hand-designed tags, the greenhouse was beginning to blossom. As it was the last day before Easter break and World Book Day, the students were dressed as their favourite characters which made the day even more magical; with an appearance from the BFG, Wally and the Queen of Hearts to name a few!

A HUGE thanks to the team who volunteered their time and as a result of their generosity, determination, and passion; St Peter’s is now home to a new blossoming greenhouse for all to enjoy.  It will offer more than the obvious four glass walls, soil, and seeds. The new green-fingered addition will also provide a place for teachers to engage pupils in positive activities during difficult times, allowing for open communication within a place inspired by new life and health. The Florist team, led by ambassador Mimi, will continue working closely with the school. Watch this space for this flourishing partnership to deliver new initiatives of support involving all our inspired team members!!

After meeting our new Florist team in Liverpool, Bristol’s northern sister will be replicating this awesome project with local Liverpool school St Sebastian’s!
