The National Bar & Restaurant group secures the highest position within the hospitality industry, placing 7th in ‘The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For 2018’

Last night The New World Trading Company (NWTC) were announced 7th position in the ‘The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For 2018’. The highest placing company within the hospitality industry. NWTC are ecstatic on their position in the prestigious list. The annual awards rely solely on the opinions and views of staff in the workplace to generate the top 100 making the achievement even more monumental.

With an impressive twenty venues across the country, NWTC runs seven brands and employs over 1000 people under: The Oast House, The Botanist, The Smugglers Cove, The Trading House, The Club House and The Canal House. Another exciting addition to the year will be the introduction of The Florist; a concept which will deliver a floral sensory experience in Bristol and Liverpool in 2018.

The Sunday Times invited all staff from across NWTC to give their opinions about their employers and working environments. This feedback was then analysed to determine a place on the list. Questions ranged from how staff feel towards their management and immediate colleagues to pay, work/life balance and how much the company gives back to society. NWTC work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure staff satisfaction is at its peak and go above and beyond to achieve this. Securing a place in the top 10 is a true reflection of the hard work and dedication NWTC management put into its staff.

The positive and laudatory feedback from employees across all levels, from directors to part time servers, has all led to NWTC retaining a proud place on the distinguished list. Key attributes highlighted by employees were the introduction of free food for staff on shift, enhanced paternity and maternity benefits, the People’s Conference - a training day which champions personal development, as well as grants for courses and personalised training programmes.

NWTC’s TRIBES continues to be successful amongst employees. The innovative employee initiative splits the company into ‘TRIBES’ who compete against each other in challenges to gain points and prizes. Through the specially developed TRIBES app made exclusively for NWTC, staff are encouraged to engage with other departments in order to earn more rewards. They can also request to send a message of praise in a bottle to anyone in the company through the app. A physical glass bottle is then delivered by HQ as way to say thank you or just to make someone’s day.

To reward the staff for all their hard work, NWTC host an incredible Christmas party. The annual event brings together employees from every venue, allowing staff to interact with colleagues across the country which in turn enhances work relationships and creates a positive working environment. The winner of TRIBES is also announced at the annual Christmas party with an extra day of holiday as the prize.

The New World Trading Company Chief Executive Officer Chris Hill says: “We’re so honored to achieve 7th position in ‘The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For’. Last year we placed 10th so this is a triumph for us and one which we are extremely excited to receive. NWTC is growing from strength to strength – this year our focus has been on empowering our people to lead the different areas of the business forward, so we are thrilled that this award comes from sentiment within the company.”

He continues: “We understand that our staff are a crucial part of the company’s success, which is why we pride ourselves on having dedicated, loyal and talented management who continue to innovate and develop all of our staff.”
